About Us
Hi!My name is Jennifer and I am a stay at home mom to our daughter and all our animals, but also a freelance graphic designer and proprietress of Pincinella.com (home to a collaboration of unique and practical products for baby and mom). Before we lived in Cold Spring, Jim (the greatest hubby ever) and I lived in New York City in a small 2 bedroom apartment. It was very nice- but we certainly did not have room for a dog. We barely had enough room for 2 cats and ourselves and when our daughter came along we were overloaded with babystuff! So we packed up and moved to the country where we built our new home on 12 acres of a spacious country mountain in Cold Spring, NY (approximately 1 hour from NYC). Not only were we ecstatic about living in our new home and all the nature that surrounded us- but we were anxious to begin our search for our well bred cocker spaniel puppy (that I had been waiting for ever since I was a little girl). We had long awaited this day and had done our research far in advance - and even had names picked out. After waiting for just the right litter we found our puppy. Dempsey stole our hearts and the heart of everyone he met in the street. It was with that one dog I acquired an affection to this breed and knew cocker spaniels were something special. As a puppy Dempsey was quick to learn, adorable, loved to play and was everything I could have ever wished for. As time went on I knew I could not have just 1. I started researching the breed more and our family slowly started to grow. Before I knew it we had 4. I bred my first litter and was blessed with 9 puppies. I knew from that moment I had found my calling. Well needless to say 9 puppies was more than allot of work- but I really enjoyed them, I enjoyed finding new homes for them and meeting new people and did not mind all the work involved. One thing I learned from all the cocker families was that our beautiful breed was plagued with many health issues. They would tell me their sad stories of their beloved pets and how they passed. It really opened my eyes to how important health testing was and how some ailments could be eradicated if we just took some tests and followed a code of ethics. Each of our breeding dogs is CERF examined annually by a veterinary ophthalmology as cataracts and glaucoma are one of the top genetic health issues that affect cocker spaniels. We take OFA radiographs to check for hip dysplasia and register them with the OFA. Patellas are also registered with OFA as luxating patellas can also be a problem. None of our dogs have seizure issues, history of autoimmune or liver problems, skin issues, eye or ear issues or temperament issues. If they did we would not breed them. No one can guarantee what the future will bring when it comes to a life- but it was my new mission to do everything I could be make sure I was going to breed for a "happy, healthy, adorable cocker spaniel". As some years passed I made some breeder friends and it was nice to share stories and really get some good advice- but it was not until I met Kathy Korab, my handler and friend who helped my obtain my first show dog and taught me a lot of what I really needed to know about our breed. She taught me about ethics and pedigrees and conformation. I learned quickly that just because a dog has the initials Ch. in front if its name - does not mean its the best- or healthy for that matter, or even nice. I have walked past some CH. at a dog show that almost bit my face off. She helped me set goals for myself and together finished my first show girl, Ch. Schiely's Mystic Breeze aka Violet. We have a come a long way in a short amount of time - although it seems like just yesterday I was potty training Dempsey. I have enjoyed learning and know I will be learning for a long time. One thing has not changed though- our love for our dogs. No matter if they have a ribbon, or are king of the couch- they are well taken care of, are loved very much and each and everyone has a special place in our heart. Some things you should know about us. First and foremost - our dogs are part of our family and are kept in our home. We take great pride in the fact that we all have so much space to romp, play and explore. All the dogs and puppies are up to date on shots and wormings and treated with topical flea and tick treatments and heartworm prevention during the appropriate months for the appropriate ages. They are fed a blend of high premium holistic foods such as Holistic Select, Canidae, and Wellness for Puppies. They all start off being crate trained and then use a doggie door- which had worked very well for us. We are very involved in the whelping, training, socialization and care of each and every one of our dogs and their puppies. They are well socialized with our children (who range from ages 6-17) and our other animals. They are cared for like they would be staying here forever because you never know if one may. We try our best to make sure that each of our puppies goes to a responsible home that will love and care for them their entire life. We feel responsible for bringing them into this world and would feel responsible if they were not placed with someone would care for them and spoil them as richly as we would for the REST OF THEIR LIFE. Please do not feel offended if we ask you questions about your living arrangement, vet, groomer or intentions for your new puppy. It is our way of screening the best available home for our puppies. Families of our puppies become part of the Moondrop Gardens family. We have a google group to keep in touch, ask for advice and just share- and we also have a annual hot dog fest where everyone is invited back for a picnic with their dog. No-- I will not show up at your house unannounced for tea- and to check on your puppy- but I will keep in touch with you and answer any and all question you may have about your puppy for as long as you need me to.If you have any questions about our program prior, during or after receiving your puppy we would be happy to help you. Please contact us at any point with questions or just doggie talk.

CH. Stephens Minvin Chip Off the Block
VINNY's PEDIGREEVinny is CERF Clear til November 2011and OFA HIPS Good.Need Hugs? Jim saw Vinny for the first time at ASC Nationals in 2010. Kathy, our handler was getting ready for the ring and he jumped up on Jim and rested his paws on his shoulders. Jim fell instantly In LOVE. He looked into Vinny's eyes and knew he was a very special dog. He always teased Kathy from there on out- "When is Vinny going to come live with me?"... It had been a long time joke until one day the our dream had come true. Vinny had a wonderful show career and loved every minute of it - struting his stuff for anyone that would watch. He finished in a handful of show as was specialed by Kathy for most of 2010 where he remained in the top 10 ranking for parti cockers. Vinny has the most magnificent movement like his daddy (CH. Tell Tail's Proof Positive aka "Vincent" which is where the MinVin came from) which can only indicate that he is a very well put together dog with matching front to his nice rear. He has a nice long neck and beautiful head with wonderful soulful expression just to name a few of his best attributes. Vinny is a little boy at heart and loves to be with his people. Kathy thought after being on the road for a few years it was time for him to settle down and enjoy being a dog and running in the park and having a family to love and spoil him. It is a great honor that Kathy choose us to be his family. It was very hard to let go becuase she loves him so much- but we are so happy to have him and Jim finally has a dog of his own..LOL! We could never thank Kathy enough. In Oct. 2010 Vinny qualified for the Eukanuba Championship (you know the one that airs on Animal Planet) for being one of the top 25 parti cocker spaniels in the country. That invitation came 2 days after I cut his show coat off!!!!!!!! :/ Oh well.... But I know Vinny is happy running around, playing ball, getting dirty and doing lots of stuff he could not do as a show dog. You should have seen his face when I let him out in the rain.... After just having VInny in the house for a few weeks we have discovered how special he really is. You read his feelings through his eyes. He is compassionate and loves to have fun and loves to be right by your side- and if he is not- he is not happy. Words can not express how happy that he came into our lives. We look forward to lots of fun with Vinny including competeing in Obedience and Rally which he would be such a wonderful candidate for as he is so willing to please. We anticipate some wonderfully tempered puppies with lovely conformation. Vinny is co-owned with Kathy Korab and not available for stud service. Vinny had his first litter In December of 2010 and produced some lovely puppies. See Dahlia's page for Vinny's daughter.

Sugarfrance & Mdg's Hey There Delilah
DELILAH's PEDIGREEEYE CERF NORMAL expires June 2012OFA Patella Certified NormalDelilah was my first parti colored cocker. I wanted a red and white so bad and found her when she was only 1 day old. I watched her grow and knew she was for me. When she got home I noticed she was a little different. She had this beautiful prance that looked like she was floating on air. As I learned more I realized that is what cockers are suppose to walk like..LOL! She was the cutest little love bug. Everyone thought she was beautiful. I considered showing her - but knew she would be very unhappy away from home. At the time I could not handle for myself- so she remained my faithful companion- always being by my side. Delilah has nice substance for a compact girl. She really has a lovely head. She has a beautiful expression. Her red is very auburn which I love. Delilah is more of the quiet girl. She likes to mind her business- is not fond of allot of hullabaloo and would be most happy prancing after butterflies and bees in the country with her pals. Although I must say that even though she is quiet around the unknown- if someone tries to steal her bully stick or bone she expels a roar like I have never heard...She is my most expressive girl. She talks to you all the time and carries on conversations with you (and sometimes herself). She has been trying for years to carry on conversations with our cat Daisy- but along with her whimpering talk she can not keep her body and tail still and her excitement scares her away. Along with being a pretty girl Delilah is very respectful and obedient. She never takes something that does not belong to her, nor does she entertain any mischief (except for one time she dug a hole under the fence and chased the chickens.- but never harmed them..LOL) I trust her in my house and know she will be a good girl. Delilah has had some very nice puppies and has been a wonderful mother and although Delilah would not have been happy as a show dog- her daughter Dahlia feels differently.Delilah's Favorite: following her friends around, especially Rose, watching TV on mommy's lap, kitty cats, eating crayons, chasing butterflies in the garden, bully sticks, playing with little puppies, being groomed, dancing, chicken breast.Delilah's Dislikes: dog's who don't share their toys (Dempsey). Bossy girls (Lala), big parties at the house.DELILAH'S VIDEO

Serenity Linda's Love Laced Lala
LALA's PEDIGREECERF Eye Testing Normal: expires October 2012OFA Hips Fair and Patella Certified ClearLala came to me from a breeder just after her 2 year old birthday. Her breeders were retiring from NY and I was informed that this girl's temperament was exceptional- and her pedigree was very nice too. She was the pick of her litter. I was a little hesitant about traveling all that way to be diappointed. It was very worth the 5 hour drive (with 5 year old in tow) LOL. Lala was fun and loving to me after only 2 seconds- and she loved our little daughter. What a lovely girl. I also liked the fact that her champion studded pedigree was chock full of health tested cockers.Lala is a nice little tri girl who's markings are more than unique. She has quite a bit of ticking on her for a dog that is not roan and she has a half face- except she has so many freckles you might not even notice. I call her "the pop eye momma" bc it always looks like she is winking at you with her white unpointed eye. She has a nice coat and a lovely head, has nice substance and good movement. My favorite thing about Lala is she is so much fun. She is bouncy and always bowing down to wiggle her tail at me. She would sit by your feet forever if you let her and always wants to be by your side. She loves car rides and walks- and likes to chase the chickens- but never hurts them. She is the first dog I have ever owned that has taken a running jump from afar to fly in my arms. She is a friend to everyone and might even let the burglers in (but Dempsey won't - so BEWARE!) Of course if dogs could read, non the less debate- her pack would vote Lala as the bossiest babe around! She is not bossy with the humans- but she comes of as a little bossy to some of the other dogs- and they think she is full of herself. She is the only dog that has had the nerve to try and steal Dempsey's ball. Delilah and her are always bugging each other- but then they choose to sleep in the same open crate at night- so go figure? Lala is my cocker operated alarm clock. Her breeder may have had roosters that she may have sang with in her previous life...because every morning at 6:32AM she calls to us to get our day started with a very low quick monotone bark that skip a beat the length of a 2 whole notes every time. How does she do that??? Luckily that is the time I start my day - so I do not mind...and why should I be the only one getting up anyway..LOLLala got her name from the slavic word for tulip. And her love laced coat depicts her ticking. It didn't take long for us to all bond with our new girl. She is a very affectionate and loving dog. She has produced some very pretty puppies that are well mannered, good natured, merry and SMART- just like her.. She is a magnificent mother. Lala is factored for chocolate which means that we could expect some pretty chocolate or chocolate parti puppies from her one day.

VIOLET's PEDIGREECERF clear exp. Nov 2011OFA Hips Good/Patellas NormalAs my passion for cockers developed into something a little more serious the show world awaited. It was not until I met my handler Kathy Korab that I was able to get that first show girl and get her championshiop title.Schiely's Mystic Breeze was 10 months old at the time and everything I was looking for in a bitch. Bred by Bev Schiely, this pretty girl has a color infused pedigree (that includes sable) that dates back to old healthy lines that have been proven successful today. Violet has a pretty head and face, a nice long neck, a nice coat and a can move pretty. After Violet finished her championship and came home we immediatly bonded- she followed me around all over and always wanted to be with me. When she is happy she is filled with GLEE- that she can not contain herself. I think one of her favorite things to do is RUN FAST- she can outrun everyone in the park. She is really great with other dogs. She is so friendly and very social with them. You can almost see her smile. Thank you Kathy for making my frist show dog experience such a positively fun one and for taking such great care of Vioelt while she was with you. Violet's First Show (video)

HONEYSUCKLE's PEDIGREECERF Eye Testing Expires 6/2012OFA: GOODI was given the opportunity to take Honeysuckle into our family from Kathy. She owned her father and I left it up to Jim to make the decision- since I dare not ask for another cocker - LOL Well- Kathy convinced him that Honeysuckle would be a great asset to our family. She is a beautiful girl with the happiest temperment ever. There is no such thing as running in her world- everything is a BOUNCE. She finished her championship when she was little more that a year old and won Best Puppy more than at few shows. Kathy's husband Jimmy took extra good care of her and was very sad to see her come home to us. His nickname for her was "Buffy". To this day when I want her to come in a hurry I call her Buffy- she always comes a running.Honeysuckle has a beautiful head, soulful expression, a really nice front and rear, gorgeous hair and OH- the best part of this little girl is that she is the poster child for Merriment. I have never seen a girl happier than she. She greets everyone with a hello and a romp like she has known them forever (but don't tell Jimmy- he might get offended). I was lucky enough to be at the show she finshed at in Erie, PA and she did finish in style with an extra major. I even over heard the judge tell Kathy that its been a long time since he saw a girl with a front like hers. :)I can not thank Kathy and Jimmy enough for giving us the opportunity to have her, and take care of her while she was with them. She is very special part of our family and we look forward to her future here at Moondrop Gardens.Honeysuckle 5 months (video)

Sassy
Moondrop Gardens Sabled Sassafras
SASSY 's PEDIGREECERF Eye Testing Expires 6/2012It was a few weeks before Christmas when my husband called me downstairs to identify a "mysterious smell". When I walked through the door to my office I had the one of the most wonderful surprises of my life. A gorgeous tiny sable puppy running to my arms. Actually you can see my reaction here- since he was kind enough to video it...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dh1Txjo_KGo . I had shared her picture with him months before and tried to convince him to get her- but he adamently said "NO"!. I had given up after a few weeks of trying. I still can not believe he tricked me- thanks Beth for helping him carry it out.I had never seen a sable cocker spaniel prior to picking up my buff girl Daphne- and it was on that day her breeder introduced me to her sister- who was this gorgeous color. I had thought about that puppy for a long time and years later when Daphne had her first litter I was blessed with a wonderful assortment of sables and sable partis. This was how my passion for this color grew. To me sables are so unique with their black tipped coat and pretty black ears. There are different colors of sables- but my preference is the black sable with a black nose and black rimmed eyes and sable partis too. There is much controversy today over sables- but basically in a nutshell and as of today- sables are not aloud to enter in conformation. They were allowed at one time- but that changed in the 1990's due to a decison on the ASCs part. That does not mean they are not recognized by AKC. They can be registered to their correct color and can compete in agility and other AKC events. I am sure one day in my lifetime sables will be allowed back into the show ring- and I hope by then I will have a homebred champion to take home a ribbon. Getting back to Sassy- whom we named perfectly. She has a wonderfully merry attitude and loves to strut her stuff- is incredibly playful and one of the most astute and agile cockers I have seen in a while. Dempsey is fast- but Sassy has no fear and smart as a whip. She runs in leaps and bounds. I have already looked into my local kennel club and am hoping to participate in agility this spring. I am sure it will be much fun for us both. She is an alpha girl- but still knows her boundaries with the other girls....for now. I have a feeling in time the pack order will change. At 10 weeks old I started obedience with Sassy just because I had this feeling she was going to be a wild one- and she is doing very well. She loves to play hard and win. She is very pretty and I love love love looking at her. She has a gorgeous head and wonderful earset and holds a beautiful soulful expression. She has a nice little compact body that is muscular and strong. She is exactly what a sable cocker is to me and with her nice pedigree I hope one day she will be an asset to my breeding program- but for now I am just enjoying her and trying to keep up with her!

(CH. Stephen's MinVin Chip Off The Block X Sugarfrance & MDG's Hey There Delilah)DAHLIA's PedigreeDahlia is very special to us because she was born here in the garden and is the first puppy we have ever kept for ourselves- she is our first home bred champion. Her mom is Delilah and her father is Vinny. She is petite, typy and cute as a button with an attitude that makes everyone turn their head. Whether she be cuddling on someone, ANYONE's lap or playing with her friends- she is a comical delight and a joy to watch move. We are very proud of her accomplushments. She finished 5 days before her 1st birthday, took a 4 point major at the Northern Ohio Cocker Spaniel Club Specialty Show at just 9 months old; Took Best of Variety over 2 specials for a 5 point major at 9 months old and brought home 3 majors and a few Best Puppys in the process.I have been blessed as some people breed for many years to have a girl as special as her and we absolutely LOVE her to pieces. We look forward to all great things from her as she enjoys her time now at home.

When we moved into our new home and finally were able to get a puppy I started my search. I had all these ideas of what I wanted in my head and when I went to pick up the puppy-there was a personality conflict. LOL But there was this one little black puppy that kept jumping on my daughter and me and was so happy and wanted to undoubtedly pick him. I whined, "I wanted a parti cocker- not a black cocker", to my sister. She just laughed. This little dog was persistent and stole my heart after 5 minutes- so we took him home. He has since been my baby- my heart dog. We have a bond that is unbreakable. He taught me alot of what I needed to know about cocker spaniels and how loving and special they are. He has been though several very bad grooming experiences and good thing for him and me- his hair grews back extra quick. But most important- If it was not for him- I would have never looked into getting another cocker and would have never grown from there.Dempsey is very competitive and would excel in agility if given the chance. He, however is a sore looser and would not excel in sportsmanship! He is intelligent, has a nice disposition and his temperament is great. He is not aggressive but can be watchful of strangers. Dempsey is a sensitive dog- You know just from his expressions when he is happy or GUILTY of something suspicious. He adores our 6 year old daughter and is excellent with other children. He is patient and gentle with them. He is the most affectionate towards our cat- being courteous to give them a head start in a chase. He is NOT however as courteous to our chickens. We truly enjoy having Dempsey as part of our family- he is the cocker that stole our hearts and started it all. He will forever be the champion of the cuz balls and the couch at our home; and forever be Rose's favorite dog.Dempsey is not part of our breeding program, and will forever be out pet.Dempsey's Favorite things: fetching anything especially cuz balls, the snow, bully sticks, running fast, and most importantly his mom. Dempsey's Dislikes: Sharing his toys, the rain, the vacuum, being groomed, he is the pickiest dog I ever met when it comes to treats and food.DEMSPEY VIDEO

Frequently Asked Questions
How can I acquire a puppy from Moondrop Gardens? Please fill out a an inquiry found on the CONTACT tab. We want to know as much as we can about you so we can match you with the perfect puppy if we have one available. WE DO NOTE SELL TO PET BROKERS, PET STORES, PUPPY MILLS or anyone who is not serious about the responsibility of owning a pet dog for the next 15 years. We will then contact you via telephone to chat..please don't be offended if I ask you lots of questions or ask for referrals. It is part of the process to know what type of puppy you are looking for and if one of ours would fit into your family. Once we decide which puppy is right for you we will require a NONREFUNDABLE deposit to hold your puppy until it is 8 weeks old. A copy of our contract (located at the top right corner of this page) will be required with final payment. Please take time to review it before contacting us.Why do you breed? We breed for our next show prospect and as not all puppies can be show prospects we sometimes have puppies available a couple of times a year. We breed for the love and betterment of our breed, for health, for temperament and "adorableness". All our dogs are fine cocker spaniels, are champions or have have champions in their bloodlines and are wonderful family companions. Our dogs are our family, our companions; part of our lives. If you are interested in a cocker spaniel to expand your family- we would love for you to cherish one of our puppies. Please support breeders that personally take care of your puppy; and educate yourself on how some puppies are the product of puppy mills. If it does not matter what breed of dog you want and are looking for a lifelong companion- and are on a limited budget- please consider adopting a animal from a rescue shelter. Most places are happy to receive a donation and spay and neuter your pet for free. What kinds of health tests do you perform?Every year each of our dogs are CERF eye tested and certified by a vetinary optimologist. This test checks for catarachts and glucoma. At the age of 2 their hips are tested and certified with the Orthapedic Founaion for Animals. This eval looks for hip dysplasia. We also have patellas certified with the OFA. This evaluation checks for "slips" or luxating patellas that can be a problem in our breed. When can my puppy come home with me?Puppies are able to leave their parents and littermates when they are approximately 8 weeks of age depending on size and maturity. Are your puppies show quality? All of our puppies come from carefully thought out breedings. We breed to produce a healthy puppy as close to the standard as possible with a merry temperament . With that being said- allot of our puppies are show quality- but we feel most comforatable (and are very proud) of having our puppies in homes as pets if we can not keep them ourselves. We prefer our puppies to be placed in loving forever homes where they can live their life as a dog and spend their days with a family to spoil them. How much are your puppies and what does that include?Price varies, please call us to discuss. You will receive a healthy, adorable, well socialized and spoiled puppy that is up to date on all vaccinations, dewormed, tail docked, dew claws removed and groomed for the first few times. It will be health checked with our veterinarian from Hudson Highlands Vet and and comes with a written health certificate and guarantee for 2 year against life threatening congenital defects. It will come with AKC registration papers, pedigree and our special customized cocker puppy pack which includes: Wellness & Eukanuba Puppy Packs, CUZ ball toy, baby blanket with first home scent, their favorite stuffed toy, waterhole dish for long eared dogs, PLUS lifelong support for questions and answers. What if I can not come get my puppy the day it is ready to come home?We prefer you to come pick up your puppy when it is 8-9 weeks old. This is a crucial time for bonding and to start socialization and training. We do understand that sometimes families have prior obligations and planned vacations. We will gladly hold your puppy for up to 1 week after the ready date. After that additional boarding fees will apply. I could not imagine having my puppy stay with anyone else than you while I am on vacation- will you puppysit?Absolutely! We would gladly puppysit any of our Moondrop Garden puppies for you while you are on vacation. They must be up to dates on shots, treated with flea and tick medication and in good health. Please contact us for reasonable rates. What treats are good for my puppy?Treats are tricky. You do not want to overload your puppy on treats as soon as they get home- they will more than likely get diarrhea. I would give them little pieces of their kibble to start off with or boiled chicken and then graduate to something that is not so harsh on their belly. Peanut butter and cheese treats are better for older puppies. Try to stick with chicken or something they are used to. RAWHIDE IS A NO-NO. Try to stick with really hard bones that can not break off into little pieces like smoked knuckle bones. Chicken jerky treats are good- but for older puppies as well as bully sticks (you need to supervise with any and all treats!!!)Why or WHY NOT cocker spaniel?A very good question! In my opinion, a Cocker Spaniel is a family dog. Smart, loyal, loveable, beautiful, and many still have a natural instinct to hunt. They are a lot of dog in a small package. They are natural show-offs, athletic and smart. They make excellent candidates for obedience and agility activities, as well as for show. They love to snuggle, learn tricks fast, love to go for walks, fetch balls or just sleep!Do you ship your puppies? At this time we do not ship our puppies. What is Moondrop Gardens?Mythologically speaking,...Moondrop Gardens is a place in the country where the moon shines so bright that it nurtures all below with its drops of glow. All our puppies are temporarily named after a flower or herb you can find in our garden. Totally corny- totally true.Email us with any questions...I will be happy to chat with you!!!

I get tons of questions about what to have ready for a new puppy when they come. You should have a XS collar (that will last about 3 weeks- so dont set your heart on it; or get one in a few different sizes.)A leashBag of food (just double check with us what brand we are feeding at the time- but usually Eukanuba Lamb & Rice NATURAL or Wellness Puppy).Food BowlNature's Miracle (to clean up accidents)LOTS OF PAPER TOWELSA crate they will be able to grow into as an adult (30 x 21 x 18 is best)A travel crate if you will be traveling lots in a car; great for the vet.We will give you a waterhole bowl for water that works great.Lots of toys in different shapes, colors and textures.Shampoo & Conditioner (we recommed Cloud Star)A nail clipper for small dogs or cats.and last by not least...Lots of Patience, Persisitance and LOVE.
